Which bank should a foreign-owned company use in Uzbekistan?

Short answer

We do not recommend one. Compare the published figures, then apply to more than one bank at the same time.

Shortlist on published figures size, deposit base and non-performing loan share are all published for each of the 34 banks (Central Bank of Uzbekistan, 1 July 2026 ↗)
Ignore ownership as a predictor competition is fierce and state banks frequently move quickly on a foreign-owned file (Central Bank of Uzbekistan, 1 July 2026 ↗)
Ask what the bank holds in foreign currency 34.7% of system assets are in foreign currency; if you earn dollars you want a bank that still wants them (Central Bank of Uzbekistan, 1 July 2026 ↗)
Apply to more than one which bank moves fastest on a particular application is genuinely unpredictable
What the figures show

This page publishes no ranking, score or recommendation of any named bank, and that is deliberate rather than evasive: the thing that decides an account opening is how a particular compliance team handles a particular file, and no published ratio predicts it. What the figures can tell you is which banks are large, which are well capitalised and which carry more bad debt — enough to build a shortlist from. (Central Bank of Uzbekistan, 1 July 2026 ↗)

Uzbek banks are permitted to open accounts remotely — for companies whose founders are residents, for individual entrepreneurs, and since October 2025 for IT-Park residents whose founder is a non-resident — and in practice essentially none of them does. Assume someone will need to attend in person, whether that is a founder or a representative acting under a power of attorney. (Bank Accounts Instruction, Para. 8 — lex.uz ↗)
